Eat Less, Train Less, Live Longer!
Did you see that article on MSNBC about living longer?
"While the quest for the proverbial Fountain of Youth is endless and typically fruitless, one method known to extend the human lifespan by up to five years has quietly become accepted among leading researchers. The formula is simple: Eat less. It could add years to your life, several experts now say. And done in moderation, it could at least help you live a more healthy life."
Really? Eat less. Live longer?
Who’d thunk?
But seriously, why is this the case? And more importantly, why do so many other health and fitness pros give the opposite advice, often asking you to eat 5-8 times a day? Is there some common ground?
Yes there is. But first let’s look at why eating less can mean living longer.
That article went on to say:
"Calorie restriction, as it is called, is as close to a real Fountain of Youth as any known technique comes. Even scientists who are cautious about anti-aging hype say it works, both by cutting risks for some diseases and by allowing all body cells, somehow, to hang in there longer.
"This is just part of the story. As usual, the mainstream media doesn’t always bother to give you the entire picture.
Eating less is a bit over-simplistic. Caloric restriction is based on "quantitative" reduction, not simply eating like a bird or starving yourself. That will never work. You won’t stick to it and your body certainly won’t bother to burn off its spare bodyfat when it thinks you’re in a stone age famine.
The key is to avoid overtraining in the gym like the plague. Too much training and you’ll be forced to eat more food — usually not a good thing.

With less time on their plates most of us desire to spend some time for working out at a local gym or community center but rarely have time for the same. It is here that home fitness regimes fit into the schedule of such people quite well.
It is not difficult to accommodate home fitness exercises in one’s routine as one needs to spend small amount of time, say 20 minutes for such sessions. Once you are through with the granularities of the routine one can easily go through the exercise routines while performing daily chores like watching television or listening to music.
Various Home Fitness Regimes
Some of the common and easy to perform yet widely acceptable forms of exercise include yoga, Pilates, dancing, aerobics and typical floor exercises. The point here is that these exercises are known since ages and have proved that practicing them can keep people fitter and healthier.
Yoga, an ancient technique that combines exercise with meditation is used by people to soothe their worries and sort out their daily issues in the form of relaxation obtained through stretching their body. Stretching ensures that body develops a certain amount of flexibility and facilitates lean muscle growth. One of the positive effects of yoga is to help people relax and get rid of stress and worries at any time of the day.
Another form of exercise is Pilates which concentrates on stomach and spinal muscles to enhance the body strength. Pilates is a form of exercise which combines the effects of yoga and floor exercises producing a different form of exercise in home fitness.
Richard Simmons, an exponent of dancing to the tunes of old beats made dancing quite a favorite among exercise followers. Except for “dancing to the oldies” other popular dance forms are available in the form of DVDs that practise following aerobics while listening to music. Its fun-exercise as you dance.
Although aerobics as an exercise practice may not be that popular amongst masses it still has some loyalists who swear by the advantages of aerobics. As a tested method of exercising it ensures that one stays fit in terms of weight and activity level.
The basic principle which aerobics follow is to increase the pace at which heart beats thus ensuring that one gives ample exercising to the most important muscle of human body and also doing away with extra calories and in turn working out rest of the body muscles.
Some other form of exercises are the basic floor exercises for e.g. crunches, push ups, leg lifts as effective home fitness regimes to maintain a fit body. These exercises not only help one to tone their body but also reduce body weight and bring it to their expected levels.
To ensure a long and healthy life one should practice at least one or more forms of home fitness routines. They help in heart exercises, reducing weight, general relaxation, calorie burning and ensure a good night’s sleep.
Is it Possible to Gain Muscle and Burn Fat at the Same Time?

Many fitness pros just plain don’t believe that you can burn fat while building muscle at the same time. Every time I read an article by some doctor or expert claiming it’s biologically impossible to gain muscle on a hypocaloric diet (a diet low in calories) I just laugh.
I do more than make claims - I have proved this to be true many times. I’ve had my body fat hydrostatically measured during several peaks. In all but one I showed an increase of muscle mass and a decrease of body fat during a 12-16 week period. The one time I didn’t show an increase in muscle mass when was I was training the most in the gym. That may not make sense right now, but it will in a moment.
How To Have Successful Month of Nutrition?
This year for nutrition month try sending out some free e-cards to remind people that eating fast food really is not good for them. One of the best things about e-cards is that they are totally free to send and create, but not only that you can send them from nearly anywhere in the world, to nearly anywhere, and they will arrive almost instantly.
Many people, especially Americans, form unhealthy and ultimately detrimental eating habits from a very early age. The plethora of frozen foods cooked in the microwave, snacks containing preservatives and artificial flavors, and the sedentary lifestyle of most people are just some of the aspects of poor nutrition.
Though many may be prone to obesity and other nutritional ailments due to genetic predisposition, much of the unwholesome nutritional habits people are accustomed to not only worsen existing conditions, but can be solely responsible for resulting health problems.
However, overeating and consuming the wrong foods are just two factors of the nutritional and health dilemma facing many Americans. Eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, are diametrically opposed to the issue of overeating and inadequate exercise.
Anorexia is an extreme aversion to eating, caused by a variety of emotional and body image issues, which results in the body literally starving. Bulimia, on the other hand, is characterized by binging and purging, and is again an outgrowth of an unhealthy self-image and attitude towards food.
Growing concern about proper nutrition caused National Nutrition Week, established as an annual event in March of 1973 by the American Dietetic Association, to be extended to a full month in 1980.
Promoting fitness, nutrition, and psychological wellness as part of a healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone of National Nutrition Month. Whether you begin an exercise regimen or change your diet to include more fresh fruit and vegetables, or begin by eliminating junk food, deep-fried foods, or caffeine from your diet.
It isn’t necessary to go to extremes, so pace yourself and start by spending more time outside, and slowly removing the unhealthy parts of your diet and routine. Dedicate yourself to more nutritious eating habits and a more active lifestyle, and change the quality of your life.
Be aware that extremism, whether throwing yourself into dieting or exercising, is not a better alternative to overeating, and is just as damaging over the long term. If you suspect that anyone you know suffers from an eating disorder or other nutrition-related problems, confront them with your concerns.
Depending on their reactions to your inquiry, you may choose to seek help from responsible outside sources, such as doctors, counselors, parents, or learn more about their condition yourself so you can educate and support them in their recovery.
Taking care of your body helps you lead a more productive, healthier life with fewer preventable health problems, so the incentive for learning how to treat your body right is that it will be better able to take care of you.
